RUMBARROCO CELEBRATES CINCO DE MAYO!
Baroque-Latin Fusion, directed by Laury Guttiérez
“Anything but stuffy and guarded . . . spiritually satisfying and downright fun”—Boston Musical Intelligencer
Cinco de Mayo is a joyful holiday in honor of Latino culture. It began with a David and Goliath story: In 1862 a ragtag little band of Mexicans somehow drove out a well-armed French invasion force—a victory with profound symbolic power. Everyone can take joy in a triumph over oppression! To celebrate this holiday, Laury Guttiérez leads a diverse ensemble in a fusion of European Baroque music and lively New World elements, with African rhythms, using early and traditional instruments (viola da gamba, guitar, percussion) and voices. There will be guest artists from Mexico and Venezuela, and a captivating dancer. Spring is for life: new beginnings and metamorphoses. It is just the season to enjoy this irresistible alchemy of old and new. Join us for an enchanting evening and be revived!
